SaaS, Vibes and AI

What about scale?

Lately, I've been chatting with several AI agency owners, and a fascinating trend is emerging: businesses are realizing they no longer have to bend their processes to fit the limitations of SaaS tools. Instead, they're exploring ways to create tailored solutions with AI-driven code generation, effectively replacing smaller SaaS subscriptions.

Two key themes are standing out:

  1. Replacing Small SaaS Tools: Businesses are increasingly aware they can automate repetitive tasks like data formatting, content summarization, automated email campaigns, basic analytics, and administrative routines with custom AI-generated solutions. The value here is clear—simplifying workflows and cutting monthly subscription costs.

  2. Optimizing Big Platforms: There's also a growing awareness that if a company uses just a handful of features from large SaaS platforms, it might be smarter—and more economical—to switch to a smaller specialized tool or even develop their own mini-SaaS solutions through AI-driven code generation.

I believe this trend represents a huge future revenue source for the tech industry. More importantly, it's incredibly exciting for business owners. Finally, businesses can shape technology flexibly around their specific needs rather than the other way around.

One thing I haven't yet seen discussed as much is scalability. Many current AI-driven coding examples focus on solving 'zero-to-one' problems—initial solutions and prototypes. It'll be fascinating to see how these lightweight coding tools or AI-assisted solutions evolve to handle the rigorous demands of scalability, which traditionally require serious systems engineering.
